Artemis files application for SAFETLD mark for its .secure top level domain.
Artemis Internet, part of NCC Group plc, has filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for “SAFETLD”, most likely tied to its .secure TLD bid.
The company is one of two applicants for the .secure top level domain. It faces Amazon.com in the contention set.
The trademark application (pdf) identifies the services as:
Business services, namely, formulation of best practices for security assurance in the field of cloud computing
Computer consultation in the field of computer, computer network, and internet security as it relates to protecting online brands, domain names, websites, and cloud computing activities; developing and implementing customized plans for improving computer, computer network, and internet security to prevent unwanted third-party interference and criminal activity in the areas of detection, diagnostics and mitigation, as they relate to protecting online brands, domain names, websites, and cloud computing activities; and software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for secure communication and transactions
Artemis plans to make .secure a secure top level domain through registrant verification, security features including DNSSEC and TLS, and rigorous policy enforcement. Its goal is for consumers to feel secure when visiting a .secure domain or receiving email sent to/from one.
I’m not sure if this is just coincidental branding, but Artemis did not apply for the .safe top level domain. The only applicant for .safe is Amazon.com.
