DNForum is rated “top domain forum”.
DNForum once again finds itself on top of the Domain Name Wire annual survey for “best forum”.
54% of people who voted for a top forum selected DNForum as best, and then there was a big drop off from there.
There’s a virtual three way tie for the second most popular forum. NamePros received the second highest vote total. Nipping at its heals is the private forum DomainBoardroom, and DomainState is just a couple votes shy of DomainBoardroom. When rounded, all three forums got 11% of the vote each.
UK domainer forum AcornDomains received 5% of the vote. There were also a lot of write-ins for internationalized domain forum IDNForums.com, Canadian forum DNC.ca, and Polish forum DI.pl.
Nacho Domain says
You’ll learn absolutely nothing on DNForum, NamePros, DomainState, etc….
Why? All the pros left years ago because there were too many newbies to answer or argue with. There are more people to “educate” and need educating on those boards now than there are people in China.
So basically what you have is amateurs teaching amateurs. It’s a huge circle of misinformation now, plus a lot of complainers.
All the smart cookies moved on in about 2007 or earlier.
I’d take calling DNForum the top domain forum with a grain of salt b/c there is no such thing as a good public domain forum anymore.

Proud to have taken a spot again this year! Thank You!

@nacho
All domain forums have value if you know how to use them correctly.
@Donna
Congrats on making the list, you deserve to be there!
Alistair says
DBR deserves it. The board is full of knowledgeable folks who do not mind sharing their ideas. Congrats Donna!
Kevin Ohashi says
As much as it pains me to say it, I am not sure why DomainState is even listed. It looks like it’s been taken over by spammers at this point. I think just about all the regulars that once made it my favorite place are gone.
Tim Davids says
Congrats DBR. Agree Kevin. A new owner at namepros should make next years voting interesting.
Ron says
Whenever I go to DNFORUM I just see so many domains listed for sale at end user pricing, no real comment, or strategy about domains, other than links to the mainstream domain blogs. Otherwise it is just a stream of endless domains that keep getting bumped in the threads by the original posters.
Johnnie says
“and DomainState is just a couple votes shy of DomainBoardroom.”
Doesn’t that kind of make this survey a joke? DomainState only has 2 members online at the time of my comment and it’s overrun with spammers. How many people actually voted on this?
Johnnie says
Checking members online:
DNForum – 140
Namepros – 102
DomainState – 2
We all know DNForum and Namepros are the 2 most popular mainstream forums people can join. We have people that prefer one over the other, we have people that participate at both. But for DomainState to be virtually tied with Namepros and DomainBoardroom makes this survey not much of anything. Participation from real members tells the truer story.
Troy says
Congrats Adam, well deserved!!
Mark says
It’s interesting but do you think you could post a link to the actual survey so we can see what was asked?
Bryan G. says
DNState was one of my favorites until a few years ago. I haven’t noticed spammers but I have noticed there’s almost no activity. The regulars moved on.
S.W. says
^Same here. When DomainState was sold, everyone apparently abandoned ship. The site’s new look and feel from the new owners wasn’t bad, but the only activity has been coming from the auto-feeds.
Andrew Allemann says
1,127 people answered the question.
Raider says
When the Forum owner tries to encourage it’s members to vote in this survey, and requests it’s members to post after they voted for the sole purpose of bumping the thread and driving up the vote count, AND when your competition does NOT do the same, should it be any surprise that DNF won?
The only thing DNF won in this survey is “Best” Campaign strategy for votes.

Raider you make some good points but you are missing one huge element. Adam not only begs for votes but he also encouraged members to vote and told them he would “REWARD” them if they voted. It’s one thing to ask members to vote it’s another thing to tell them you will reward them.
Adam is not new to this type of manipulation though. He does this often and will cheat to win . Just look at how he sold illegal satellites and got caught for doing so. It doesn’t matter what business Adam goes into. He is a cheat.
Raider says
@ Bill
On the point of rewarding members, I made this exact point on my very last post, the post that Adam conveniently EDITED out and then banned me for.
What Adam doesn’t know is that I took a snapshot of that post.. Like I said before, He would of likely Won this silly survey anyway if he just stayed out of it, The reason he didn’t is because he was AFRAID to lose.. That’s what this is all about.
Bill says
Raider – You are not the first person to have your posts edited by him.
Raider says
I have to give him credit, he did a real hatchet job on it.. Reason for ban was “Rudeness To Staff” when in fact all I did was post the TRUTH. And because he couldn’t stomach the TRUTH, he hits the ban button.. LMAO!.. Big ego, small mind.
In the past year, I actually find myself spending more time on domainer blogs.. If you look at the numbers, Forum participation across the board has been on the decline for years, Experienced members have been abandoning ship for BLOGS for quite some time, It’s where most of the quality content and insightful information is.. Information you can really LEARN and capitalize from…. This you won’t find on DNF, most of what you get there is a rehash of information that most of us already know… Nothing to stimulate your mind whatsoever.
Lot of stuff for noobs, but not much else.
Adam Dicker says
@Bill,
Clearly you can do the math and figure out that the 30-40 people that said they voted for dnforum in the survey cannot add up to 54% of 1127 people that took the survey.
Also with regards to my time in the satellite days in Canada where it was grey market until it was made illegal, I ran 4 stores and was eventually charged by the RCMP in 2001. What you fail to mention is that the law was stricken down as unconstitutional and all the charges were dismissed. I am quite proud of my time in the satellite industry. Bill if you ever want the real facts, please email me at [email protected] and stop hiding behind an alias.
I suspect you will continue to hide behind an alias. Most cowards do.
@Raider
You have always made your opinions very clear on who one should vote in the american political elections. I am not sure how this is different, an intelligent candidate always rallies supporters. I respect your opinions but I don’t have to aggee with them.
@Anyone else
I know for a fact that other boards encouraged people to vote for them, and there is nothing wrong with that. How else do you think some of the others could have even gotten 11%.
@Donna
Congrats you deserve to be there.
@Namepros
Congrats you also deserve to be there.
Here’s one and there is nothing wrong with this either.

with a nice quote:
A friend is taking the survey and voting for DNC.ca It would be nice to turn some heads!
Donna Mahony says
Adam, these people can be at any forum they want to be at, yet they are DNF…survey or not, that answers the question!
I don’t recall if I encouraged votes or not but would have felt comfortable doing so…it’s fun! Enjoy the title my friend!
Adam Dicker says
@Donna
Thanks Donna, I can always count on your for support and vice versa.
Andrew Allemann says
At the end of the day, this survey is just a fun thing. It’s not scientific, so it doesn’t answer anything definitively.
Although I don’t spend nearly as much time at forums as I did “back in the day”, I think they all have something good to offer. They’re also a lot of work to run, and I commend people like Adam and Donna for their hard work.
Adam Dicker says
@Andrew
They certainly do take alot of work and I commend anyone that runs one as well.
Of course it’s just for fun, I am not sure why anyone is getting heated up anyways, it’s not like I won money. ๐
Thanks to all 1127 people that took time to do the survey no matter who you voted for.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Adam Dicker – I forgot to tell you it comes with a $100k grand prize
๐
Donna Mahony says
I certainly can’t compete with any of the others but I love this survey and I am proud my tiny place takes a spot. I think for just the headaches of running a huge public forum Adam deserves to win..it’s not easy! Can I have 11% of the 100k please ๐ Kudos to all of us, forums and blogs alike that give domainers a place to meet and speak! That’s what it’s all about!
Adam Dicker says
Hey that’s in writing, taking screnshots! ๐
Adam Dicker says
@Andrew,
Thanks for doing this survey every year, it’s more work than people realize no matter who wins in any category.
Thanks!
gaetano marano says
I prefer DomainState.com for several reasons, that’s why I’ve opened many threads of my domains on sale on that forum
–
I’ve also done my registration to DomainBoardroom.com weeks ago but I haven’t still received the password to access it
–
lately, also the AfternicDLS DiscussNames.com is very active despite its owner no longer supports it since has deleted the button/link from the site’s home page
Raider says
@ Andrew, Your exactly right, it’s not scientific and doesnโt answer anything definitively.. I think the issue that’s being overlooked here is when the winners of these surveys go around boasting their the “Best” based on the survey itself.
If you were to grade the important aspects of the top 3 Forums or top 3 Registrars or top 3 parking providers, I’m convinced the results would be far different.. Perhaps this can be done in next years survey.. At any rate, I love your site, it’s extremely informative and has always been a place where most of us get our domain news.. Keep up the good work! ๐
@ Adam.. Being professional and objective have always been your strong points, but in the heat of the moment we sometimes lose it. In the end you stepped up and did the right thing and I respect you for it… Hopefully the administrative issues I raised in my email will help you improve on what you have.
@Donna.. It’s time you put your pom poms down Girl, we all know you have a business relationship with Adam.. It’s funny, I’ve been in this business for over 10 years and have never heard of DBR until reading this thread. Honestly I have ZERO interest in joining your board. If you want my static IP so you can block me, I’ll be more than happy to send it to you.. I go where the intelligence is.
Donna Mahony says
@Raider Adam and I simply have a mutual friendly respect for each other. Something that is sadly lacking in the industry.
Whether he and I have a business relationship, which is info your unfounded comment seems to be fishing for, is, frankly, none of your business.
I’ll keep shaking my pom poms because I believe in cheering on the folks in my industry.
