It appears the owners of Dog.com and Fish.com have purchased Farm.com.
The dog may have a new farm…
An astute reader emailed me yesterday saying that Afternic showed the sale of Farm.com for $200,000 on its “Recent Sales” page. By the time I visited Afternic yesterday the sale was no longer posted. But I did a little digging, and it looks like the domain did change hands.
On March 1, the Whois record for Farm.com showed “FARM Capital Services” as the owner. The Farm.com domain resolves to a page offering the domain for sale and directing inquiries to FARM Capital Services, LLC. On March 8, the Whois ownership record changed to PetsUnited, LLC, the same company that owns dog.com, horse.com, bird.com, and bought Fish.com for over $1M last year (the most expensive disclosed domain name sale of 2005). Furthermore, PetsUnited is known to use Afternic to acquire these popular domains.
I can’t verify the sale price of $200,000, but this certainly is a big sale!
