Domainers should test domains with parking companies for at least a month to achieve valuable results.
When I first started parking a couple dozen names at Parked.com a couple weeks ago I was dissapointed with the RPM. But my results have improved dramatically over the past few days as the parking service has had a chance to optimize my domains based on user traffic.
For example, take a look at BoyGeorgeDJ.com. At first it showed links related to music in general but not DJs. Then the page started to show links related to DJs, DJ equipment, etc. At first the picture on the landing page was music related but not DJ related. The original picture was a baby sitting next to a guitar. Someone looking for DJ equipment would not have been attracted to the page. Now both the first page lander and secondary pages have pictures of DJs. The click through rates have skyrocketed over the past week.
This is an important lesson for domainers. A lot of people place domains on one service, aren’t happy with the results after a week, and jump ship to another service. All good parking services continually optimize your domains based on the actions of your visitors. If they start clicking on a particular topic then that topic will receive more focus. If they continually search for related terms you can expect those terms to show up as keywords on the page.
I’m especially excited to see the level of photo optimization at Parked.com. For example, check out Paperclip.org. That’s quite a level of detail to show a photo of paperclips instead of just generic office supplies.
I’m working on a complete review of Parked.com and hope to get comments from the service’s owner. But I won’t jump the gun — I’m going to wait until the service has a chance to optimize my domains even more. Also, since I don’t own any IDNs, please contact me if you are parking IDNs with Parked.com and what results you’re getting.
